Fight Rules

SKILL LEVELS:

Beginner — Less than 1 year of training
Intermediate — 1 year to 3 years of training
Advanced/Professional — 3 years or more of training

LENGTH OF MATCHES:

Advanced/Professional — 8 minutes - 2-four minute rounds

WEIGHT CLASSES:

150 lbs.
170 lbs.
190 lbs.
215 lbs.
215+ lbs.

POINT SYSTEM:

Actions:
Takedown landing in guard or mount — 2 points
Sweep or reversal landing in guard — 2 points
Takedown landing inside mount — 3 points
Sweep or reversal to side mount — 3 points

Positions:
Side mount position — 3 points
Mount position — 4 points
Back mount position — 4 points

Submission Attempts:
Valid submission attempt — 1 point
Advantages:Near takedown — 1 advantage
Near sweep or reversal — 1 advantage
Near guard pass — 1 advantage

Advantages count towards the match if the score is tied at the end of regulation. All Actions and Positions must demonstrate control for 3 seconds. Guard pulling (determined by the referee) is allowed and is no score for the top competitor.

ILLEGAL TECHNIQUES:

No slamming.

Other illegal techniques for all divisions:

No striking, biting, eye gouging (includes chin to eye), small joint manipulation (finger and toe locks), hair pulling, or ear pulling.

WAYS TO WIN:

  • via tapout either physically or verbally or the opponent cannot continue
  • via points
  • via advantages if the score is tied
  • via disqualification
  • via referee’s decision after overtime

DISQUALIFICATION:

A competitor may be disqualified for any of the illegal techniques listedabove if deemed intentional. In a case where a competitor cannot continuedue to an illegal technique applied, the offending grappler will be disqualified.

STALLING:

Stalling is called by the referee anytime a competitor is deemed to be passiveby avoiding action or backing out of bounds. The referee will give one officialwarning for the first offense, followed by 2 points for the secondoffense,3 points for the third offense, and disqualification on the fourth offense.

OVERTIME:

If the score including advantages is tied at the end of regulation, the match will go into sudden death overtime. The time limit will be 2 minutes starting from the standing position. The first points scored will end the match. If an advantage is scored the match will continue until the end of overtime and then it will be decided. If there is still no score or advantage in the overtime the referee will decide the match on aggression.

HYGIENE:

At weigh-ins all competitors will be checked for communicable diseases, not limited to but including ringworm and bacterial infections. Fingernails and toenails should be neatly trimmed. No part of the body should have any sticky or oily substance.

COMPETITOR ATTIRE:

Approved rash-guards (blue PD & Red FD) and board/fight shorts (black) must be worn by grapplers during championship bouts without exception. During preliminary bouts non-uniform fight shorts, board shorts, and singlets may be worn with or a tight fitting short, a rash-guard, or without a top! Wrestling shoes, knee pads (non metal braces), headgear, cups and mouthpieces are optional.

FIGHTER TRYOUTS/REGISTRATION:

Fighter Tryouts will commence February 7, 2009, No Limits MMA in Irvine, CA. Start time is 1000 am, grapplers are expected to have their application completed before hand. Fight evaluators Brian Peters, Ken Gabrielson, Scott DeWitt, and Mark Mireles - will seat & pair fighters based off grappling skills, conditioning, and a one-on-one interview. There will be a $75 assessment fee to cover staffing expense and insurance. Selected fighters will move onto the Championship Fight Night, May 13, 2009, in Palm Springs and compete for a $500 purse! All Champion contestants must purchase approved rashguard and fighter shorts through for championship bouts.
